finish line

Graduating from college is by far my greatest accomplishment! I remember thinking I would never finish school because I had every intention of taking over the family business.  I am so glad I did not take that route because one can never go wrong with a college education.  Should I still decide to take over the business, having a degree will only benefit me. Although my emphasis is in Human Resources and I have a wonderful job, having a back up plan never hurts :)

I start my full-time position on July 6 as a Recruiter at Southern California Edison! I am so very excited to start my career with a company like SCE…I look forward to the new doors that will open up in the future..on that note..CONGRATULATIONS to my two colleagues Brandon and Jen for their recent promotions!!!! WOOO HOO!!! I hope to be just like you when I grow up ;D

Many thanks to all those who attended my graduation and celebrated this milestone with me!! You all are so special and hold an important place in my heart.  Thank you again!

*Lakshmi – Thanks for the best surprise ever! Confirmed the strength of our friendship!

*Ryan Beeber – Thank you for making me feel so special..you might not have come JUST for my graduation but I’d like to think so anyway ;)  xoxo

*Priscilla – Thank you for bein such a great carpool buddy. School would not have been the same without you! I wish you much success and congrats on the engagement!!!!!!!

MOST IMPORTANTLY- special special thank you to my dear mother. I could not have done this without her love and support my entire SIX years of college..(lol yeah yeah yeah took me a while but I believe everything happens for a reason- ie: I might not have the job I have now had I finished any earlier/later) My mommy has ALWAYS had my back, but when it came to school she had it 100000%.  There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for me…whether it be paying for my tuition, books, encouraging me to seek tutoring when needed..you name it. She even drove me to school during finals wen I was sick…I’m very fortunate to have never experienced being a “poor college student” because  I lived at home and whatever I needed, I got.  Now that I can extend my own wings, I look forward to giving back and being the best daughter I can possibly be.  I love you, Mommy. <3

I was never exposed to the beautiful melodies of Reggae until I got to Jamaica…it truly gave my mom and myself a great appreciation for Bob Marley + The Wailers and other artists. I am downloading a few raggae hits as we speak….not only did I come home appreciating the music but also the culture of the Jamaicans.  They are very warm and loving, hard-working, worry-free and willing to help in any way.  It is very humbling to see the way they live their lives and how much Americans take things for granted…..the country relies heavily on tourism to keep afloat and poverty remains a big issue – homes can take up to 10-15 years to build due to the lack of resources..

My mom treated me to this wonderful vacation as part of my graduation gift and I couldn’t thank her enough..it was an unforgettable mother/daughter bonding experience.  I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect trip than this..we visited the famous Dunns River Falls in Ochos Rios, went on a Booze Cruise, Snorkeled at Doctors Cave Beach, Ziplined through the Chukka Rain Forest and most importantly, rest and relaxed on the resort.  We stayed at the luxurious all-inclusive Riu Montego Bay for 6 nights and I highly recommend it to ANYONE interested in visiting the beautiful country…

Here are a few pictures from our trip….enjoy!

GUESS WHO IS COMING HOME JUST FOR MY GRADUATION?????? my justin ryan beeber! teeee heeee. You all have no idea how STOKED I am! Originally, it was supposed to be a surprise….but he thought he needed a ticket to attend graduation. not slick. but it’s okay because that probably would have made me faint anyway.

soooooo we go way back..so far back I can’t even show you pics from those days. oh em gee bloggy babies! Should I blame my dear mother for making me (literally making me) such an ugly duckling? All I have to say is, change is good ;)

The saddest day of my life (ok ok one of them)…bbcakes decided he was moving to New York of all places!! Mind you, I always told him how much he’d love it there..how much the city reminds me of him…and that we should go one time…SO WE DID. and guess what? it bit me in the behind. He loved it just like I said he would….HE LEFT ME HERE IN CALIFORNIA ALL BY MY LONESOME!!!!

And I miss him. So this one’s for you…..

Dear bbcakes,

I love you but I hate you for leaving me.  I really hope NY treats you like dog poop so you can come back home. I used to think driving to LA was far….sweet geezus, NY is way way way far. No more calling an hour before and asking you to go to dinner with me..or asking you to just sit and laugh with me..or asking you to sit there so I can cry a river and you just listen..or asking you to entertain me..or tormenting my dog…….errr..by yourself. -___-

Okay, in all seriousness…bb, you’re missed but I’m so so so glad you found yourself a new place to call “home”. please please please don’t make it forever. I know I love NY and I visit quite often..but not often enough for you to make that your living space for good ok? Maybe I’m being selfish..maybe I’m being rediculous..but I can’t help it..you’re the baby brother I never had and you know I’d do anything for you.

love love love.

I had one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long long time….not only did my beloved brother and his gf come home but my cousin Jacky tied the knot! Not to mention, it was a LONG weekend! I almost wish it never ended..but then again..nevermind b/c I am counting down the days til graduation!!!! 10!!! happy happy joy joy! (I keep forgetting these posts aren’t about me..sorry)

where was I? ahhh..my brother! We have this amazing relationship (it wasn’t always this way) and I will forever be grateful for all we’ve been through. When I say we’ve been to hell and back I mean it 100%..I almost can’t even fathom how bad it was but that chapter of our lives is way behind us…If I were to do things all over again, I would do exactly how things went..w/maybe just a few less fights..haha. I used to think my brother was being mean to me just because he wanted to pick on someone and because it was convenient for him.  Boy, was I wrong.  Now I know he was just doing his job..being a protective older brother. I can honestly say, without all that we’ve been through..I definitely would not be the woman I am today.

My brother is my role model..he moved out at the tender age of 20 to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a chef and felt the only way to be GREAT was to attend the prestigious CIA, the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. (http://www.ciachef.edu/) Yes, moved to the opposite coast not knowing a single soul! While in school, he took on an internship at the French Laundry  (thefrenchlaundry.com) in Napa Valley and the rest is history! Now, he works at Thomas Keller’s world reknown Per Se, where guests don’t go just to eat food rather enjoy  an emotional experience. (www.perseny.com) How passionate my brother is about cooking alone motivates me in a number of ways and makes me want to be just HALF the man he is.  He is the face of the future and will do big things. I am soo proud to call him my brother and love him to death. MY POINT IS….

He met his perfect match two years ago whilst working at the St. Regis Hotel in NY (www.starwoodhotels.com) but they never spoke to each other until about a year ago..Gena, my brother’s girlfriend is so sweet and I knew she was THE girl for him the day I met her. They compliment each other like peanut butter and jelly! Being around such an amazing couple makes my heart smile…let me stop trying to explain and let me show you what I captured and hopefully your hearts will smile!

Thank you gug & gena for a wonderful weekend and THANK YOU for the Glenn Ivy gift certificates..mommy and I will definitely be pampering ourselves soon..I love you both! xoxo<3

Baby Bump

  • June 3, 2010 12:33 am

Walkin around with a baby bump almost seems like it’s the trend these days..2010 must be the new baby boom era..or is it just the folks around me? Although it seems like a ton of fun (you all MUST know how much I adore babies..so much that I want to EAT THEM!!!), I, however, am certainly not ready for my own…you know, they say you must learn to crawl before you can walk…with that being said………haha! That’s a topic i’ll save for another day..so please, friends and family..continue the baby boom era and allow me to live vicariously through you all..maybe i’ll even kidnap ‘em for a day or two……

Anyway, to my dear friend..thank you for allowing me to document such a special time in your life…you are a beautiful soul and cannot wait to meet your precious mini. I hope you enjoyed the session as much as I did and I definitely look forward to continue his story through my lenses..xoxo<3

Baby Lucas,

What your mommy wishes to give you in times to come,
happiness, and wisdom,
a life filled with fun,
to explore all adventures of your curious mind,
to become knowledgeable of what you’ll find,
as she awaits your arrival and the presence of newborn cries,
She pictures how you’ll look when she opens up her eyes.
She feels your movements every time she wakes each day,
letting her know that you’re okay,
obstacles she hopes you’ll overcome,
education she knows you’ll get done,
She stays up late reading to you,
talking to her stomach,
a feeling she never knew,
hungry all the time
‘No doubt you’re a son of hers’,
You make her feel happy even when she’s sad,
because the formation of another life makes her glad.
Proud of you she is,
She already knows how you’ll be,
a smart ‘lil’ man for mommy to see,
no worries from her a mom to be,
to a special baby boy we can’t wait to see.
